Progress of Launching "101 Things To Do at KK"

Project by: Daniel Wong

Website: http://www.kotakinabaluguide.com/

Started on 06 September 2011

Project Description:

After the success of "43 food you must not miss at KK", many readers have been asking me all sort of questions, most frequent question I get is "what can I do/see/play/visit at KK?".

Hence the idea of writing "101 things to do".Tackling this project should be fun, and challenging.

By writing this guide, I hope to get many people's question answered. I am selling this guide for a low fee to cover the cost of my coffee :) I will share how I come up with the pricing and also strategy I used throughout this project.

Here's what I've done today
1) Research - I've emailed my blog subscribers (500) and received topics they want me to cover.
2) More people to email 'waiting' list - Click on '101 things to do' banners in my blog, you'll see how I collect readers' email. This is to ensure my market is 'warm up' before purchasing.
3) Start building hype - mostly word of mouth, and big-ass banner in my blog.
4) Collecting 101 ideas - I told readers that I have already written 96 ideas, but need 5 more.. I encourage them to contribute the rests. 101 ideas quote should be filled in no time.

My goal for Phase I:
To build a 'minimum viable product' and do a mini launch to my readers, I will do a major launch in travel sites once I think the product is ready.

What to do next:
1) Find 101 ideas -_-"
2) Determine price: RM or USD
3) How to find group of beta readers to review and give testimonials (for sales page)
4) Setup affiliate system
5) ... belum tahu lagi,

That's pretty much it. Next phase is to outsource the content! Muaahhaha.

Til then.

Keywords reaches out 16million viewers!

Project by: eshanne

Website: http://tuaranblog.com/google-android-hacked/

Started on 02 August 2011

Project Description:

Hi guys, eshanne here a blogger from Tuaran - Lived and working in KL  as Graphic Designer -

What's my specialize?
What do you think i do? designing things, stressing out my head, yaiiiieee.. 9 years ago im working at KK in EVERBEST BRIDAL PHOTO - Extrack International - If you know Eugene chong say hi to him.

Keywords
The easiest part about keywords is you control the flow - Who says you can't get into it with a simple knowledge about blogging? - lot's of my friends struggling to get their own keywords or niche to reach out a million members or users from all over the world - lets get straight! - im a blogger consider one as a blogger (i think!) - i've played around with seo keywords -  like "android phone is hacked" and i got hit around! - 16,900,000 results (0.14 seconds)  - in just a few seconds my blog is hit by 30% of
the users that searching the keywords.

The Secret!
There is no secrets for the method i've used! - used BOLD!

How to gain more users?
You can't! - There's no easy way! unless you do some works!
- Socials
- Marketing
- inviting
- Email list
- Friends & Family
That's how you start it! many blogs has turned down by google and
lots of them are totally unknown lost track or didn't even recognize by google.

How did i reach that goal?
Do you want to know? the truth? well ok .. im using a socialNET's such as FB - Twitter
and mostly Empire Avenue! - Social businesses such as ecademy linked in and many more.
The thing is i didn't realize the keywords, there's no niche no seo skill just a keywords, it's not
about how long your blog is alive it's about how long you can keep the your contents alive!
creating a lots of income with this, yeah im pretty sure as rite now from zero to hero im
gaining more users / visitors - but no comments - only a clicks some of the advertisers in there.

Imagine 1 click is PPC = 0.01 cents x 16millon users = how many clicks you get?
Reaching out goal is not easy but as i just said "BE BOLD!" - do some keywords track not inside
the links but inside the contents, try to look in google - you will  know what i mean.

now im trying to reach 50 + 50 million viewers not a day but a week .. Well! - Here goes.. The journey!

emmmm.. i still don't think i can get that amount! -
if you guys do have any suggestion, well count me in .. im waiting..

Project Description:

Refer to this: http://mbipv.net.my/content.asp?zoneid=6&categoryid=34 As of 28th April the new Renewable Energy Bill has been Gazetted by Parliament. Enactment will be launched in July and SEDA the governing authority will be launched in Q3 2011. Looking at the bill and especially into the details of the new Feed in Tariff, the new mechanism is just asking for a way to be broken. I need to figure out how.   The gist of it is this:
  • in 2012, nationwide utility bill will increase by 1%(or 300millionRMK) to raise a fund to promote renewable energy installations.
  • This fund is used to pay what is known as the new Feed in Tariff, whereby your installation can sell power back to utility (after signing a power purchase agreement with SESB) at a very high rate (RM1.70 per Kw, in reference we pay RM0.28 for our daily use), the agreement is binding for 21 years of supply.
  • anyone can take part (not only bumi owned IPP), ranging from residential owners to major commercial and industrial sectors. Applications are open to all, and are set on a first come first served basis. quota for 2012 is 29MW of RE power.
  • if you have a house roof, mall roof, hotel roof, parking lot roof, factory land, any open spaces you can generate solar power to sell back to grid.
  • Financial runs based on guaranteed power generation from equipement manufacturers and the new government controlled rates are fantastic, with IRR of 30%+. Ball park figures are RM15 for a watt of power generation. ( a 4kW house roof system would cost around rm60K to install, PPA for 21 years at min 3.5 sun hours a day would have returns of 182K min after 21 years )
  • Malaysia enjoys around 4- 4.5 sunhours a day average, being 8 degrees on top of equator line.
  • a 3 acre land can generate 1 MW of power, calculated returns of RMK2 mil a year.
  • no feedstock, diesel, mechanical stress (no moving parts) that would require heavy maintenance.

X45 - the future of fitness?

Project by: Sam Tan

Started on 29 April 2011

Project Description:

The beginning:
When I was working towards the launch of the 2nd Core Fitness branch at Centre Point, i decided to venture out on a limb with a new concept.

After spending 10 years of exploring the fitness world, different training styles, fitness centre setups, etc. i've found 3 distinct challenges with what can be considered the "traditional" fitness setup. Anyone can open a gym with a bunch of machines and charge for people to use it. But what do users face?

In my opinion, 3 things are very common:
1. People train alone. With no guidance/support, the typical enthusiastic gym goer gravitates very quickly to a weekend warrior and eventually to a no-goer.
2. People with no background in fitness (90% or so of the population) waste alot of time either not getting results, or getting results that do not translate well into "real life".
3. Most people tend to specialize in a certain aspect i.e. running, lifting, body building.. while neglecting other important areas. The more you specialize, the weaker you will become in other areas.

The basic concept:
As a fitness operator, my priority is RESULTS for my clients. Results not just in the area of aesthetics, but also in areas that can improve a person's quality of life and maximize his/her life potential. Being able (and confident) to approach any physical (and even mental) challenge because of your confidence in your abilities is very empowering. Building a strong general fitness base makes a person better at life, sport, work, and in cases of unpredictable emergencies. The strong don't just live better, they live longer too.

The result:
We designed Xpress45 (or X45) as a program that incorporates best practices of fitness training with the following features:
- we design shorter workouts at a slightly higher intensity
- trainees always train under supervision of a qualified Fitness Coach
- we program workouts to focus on the 4 main physical attributes: strength, endurance, flexibility, and stamina.
- trainees train in groups to encourage consistency and fun
- we use a wide variety of essential, fundamental movements that translate well into life and sport
- we set high standards for movement quality and fitness
- we emphasize alot on mobility/flexibility for injury prevention and better longevity
- we want to help people look good AND feel good

The goal:
Core Fitness is all about people. Our ultimate goal is to built a community of people that strive to get more out of all aspects of life. Good health and fitness provides the foundation for that.

With X45, our goal is to explore a new training style that anyone can get into and benefit from. It is just the beginning, and we haven't yet built up a stable group of X45-ers, but the ultimate goal is to provide top notch training to increase the fitness and quality of life for people from any background or fitness level.

Starting something new is always exciting and we're hoping for the local community of KK to catch on and explore X45 with us.

much love,
X45 - light a fire.

Project Best 43 KK Food - How I gained 6,500 unique visitors in 30 hours.

Project by: Daniel Wong

Website: http://www.ahbing.com/43-must-not-miss-best-food-in-kota-kinabalu/

Started on 10 October 2010

Project Description:

This project was written over span of 2 months and I received a huge spike in blog traffic and exposure. Here I share my experience, lesson and also rewards from writing this post.

The Goal: Write Epic Shit
Creating huge posts is always on my to-do list for my sites. I never fail to gain attention and traffic every time I do this.. PROVIDE VALUE and SOLUTION. Last year, my blog had a spike after I wrote "15 Best Food in KK", I've been invited to many food testing since. This year I came up with even bigger list.. hence the traffic. I become the "KK Food Blogger" although that's not my intention. I wanted to be the most handsome blogger in KK... haih. (lol)

The Traffic:
Posts went viral immediately after I published: 6,500 unique visitors within 30 hours, 5,000 shares on Facebook, 200 RSS subscribers, 200 email subscribers.. well you get the idea. It's fun looking at the traffic stats and readers' comments pouring it. Most of them are hate comments "fuck you why you write this post now I am hungry" lolol.

Monetisation:
I earn nothing from this blog posts - however I do get exposure for my KK private guide service where I teamed up with another tour guide. Earning my first RM1,000 in 24 hours. Also gain exposure for my upcoming KK project.

Lesson learned:
Always provide solution / value to your readers. No one is interested in what you did today, your cat's lunch, what perfume you used.. and NO EMO POSTS la please! Readers are interested in what they can benefit from your blog. In my case, I provide entertainment value.. (e.g. Planking post) Lim provide self-help and motivation in Clipsoflogic.com..

Also I learned how to setup a proper email list and also minor (yet valuable) lesson along the way. Mostly technical stuff so I'll skip this part.

(Sotong I miss your blog - Y U NO UPDATE!!?? *kof kof kof*)

What to take away:
Anyone can do what I achieved.  Anyone can have the same traffic. Anyone can have the 300-400 daily readers I am having (show off *kof kof*).. remember to share value, put in the effort, and be consistent.

My biggest lesson:
Do it - beat procrastination.. take small daily steps. I forced myself to write at least 3-5 sentence per day. "tidak habis nih!! diao.." I told myself every time. Small steps is all I take, and momentum will take over.

Hope you learn something from this project. Please ask me any question.

Daniel

KINABALU FIGHTERS T-SHIRT

Project by: sotong

Website: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_145565875513198&id=151791...

Started on 08 June 2011

Project Description:

I run a small "Martial arts fitness gym" at Wisma Intiutama & we have a membership of about 60 people if everyone turns up. This is my 1st try to see if i can sell the team 50 pieces of our own club T-shirt.

T-shirt is of cotton & RM25 per piece. The project started out with the launch of the KINABALU FIGHTERS logo in white tee (as our logo originally is in white background) unfortunately majority of the members prefer Black background which had me redesigning the logo abit to fit the background.

MORAL: once you go black, you never turning back... ... ...

The respond was rather surprising, on the 1st day we had 10 orders & I hope subsequent training in the gym will get more interest.  Will update more.

HOBBYCON 2011

Project by: sotong

Website: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_22651218027&view=doc&id=1...

Started on 08 June 2011

Project Description:

WHAT IS HOBBYCON?

A hobby is a spare-time recreation pursuit. It may stretch from collecting, scale modelling, gaming, photography, drawing, creating and even costume role-playing.
Whilst some hobbies strike many people as trivial or boring, hobbyists have found something compelling and entertaining about them. This fact has brought to light different genres such as Table Top Games, Collectible Card Games, Cosplay, collecting Figurines, Drawing Manga, Doujinshi, Blogging & Japanese Subculture Fashion.  The hobbies above have long existed in Sabah, but it was never acknowledge nor understood by the common public. The lack of exposure, understanding & misconception has thus left many who dwell into this activities to become closet hobbyist ...  ... until the coming of HobbyCon.  That is what Hobbycon is all about. It is set to be a medium to show the public in Sabah that there are many cool and interesting unknown hobbies that have been left unexplored. HobbyCon is THE place to gather people who share the same passion as them - their love for their hobby, and not let the hobbies be forgotten.
____________________________________________________________

We are currently at our 5th year & I'm hoping to bring in more cosplayers from other region: Brunei, Sarawak & West Malaysia.

I also hope to bring in more western hobbyist to the convention & encourage more western costume to be present like STAR WARS / MARVEL / DC / DISNEY heroes.

Will update often to show my progress & maybe share this experience to everyone regarding organizing a hobby event in KK.
